Generally, gene is transfected by using vector virus, however, alternative method is strongly desired because usage of vector virus attends risks of infection and canceration. Prof. Takeshi Yao and Assistant Prof. Takeshi Yabutsuka have fabricated hydroxyapatite (HA) microcapsule containing DNA in its inside as shown in Fig.1 for gene transfection. The hydroxyapatite microcapsule possesses high bioaffinity and is innocuity to human body. They examined its effectiveness as follows. They fabricated the hydroxyapatite microcapsules containing EGFP, then put them on medium of Human embryonic kidney 293 cells. After 24 h, they observed EGFP expression with higher efficiency than using vector virus by fluorescent microscopy as shown in Fig.2. HA protects gene from acidic circumstance of matrix vesicle and dissolve to let gene out. The hydroxyapatite microcapsule is easy to fabricate in large quantity.
